It finally happened…

by Dimi 23. July 2010 23:33

I didn’t expect it to happen, but yes, it happened. Finally I got rid of all that spam I received on this blog. Thank you BlogEngine.NET developers and contributors. Thanks to the last update to version 1.6.1.0 and the documentation explaining the new comment system I’m one of the happiest people alive.

For a long time now I received daily up to 50 spam comments. That’s maybe not as much as others blog receive but since I have the notification enabled, hoping that some people who are seriously interested on articles here leave a comment, I got tired of deleting every day so much emails. Not to mention to delete the spam comments. Now with the latest release of the BlogEngine.NET the new comment system makes it pretty easy to handle all that shit. Bulk deletion is only one of the features to mention. But the best thing is the integrated filters for moderating new comments. I must admit that I did not enable the reCaptcha feature which ships with the latest version but followed the instruction in this post to enable a Captcha method since reCaptcha disables the AJAX functionality in BlogEngine.NET. I additionally enabled the AkismetFilter with first priority and the StopForumSpam filter as second and voila… my inbox is clean again.

At this point I should say thanks to the complete BlogEngine.NET team for providing such a great piece of software and making my life easier with every update. I also want to highly recommend using BlogEngine.NET for everyone who is looking for a great blog software. I don’t know much about WordPress and other blogging apps but as a ASP.NET developer I can recommend BlogEngine.NET. If you have the choice choose .NET :)

DarkBlog theme for BlogEngine .NET

by Dimi 3. February 2009 21:02

Here we go with the DarkBlog theme for the latest BlogEngine 1.4.5 version. In fact it’s not really a 1:1 portion of the theme. What I did, since I liked the colors and look, is to take the BlogEngine standard/default theme by Mad Kristensen and to update it to the colors of the DarkBlog theme adopted by RTur.net.

If you like it, then use it ;) Just unzip the content into your Themes directory of your BlogEngine installation.

About blogs and posts...

by Dimi 5. April 2008 20:15

No this is not a technical article. I just wanted to say some things and so I'm writing these lines. I'm now for over 10 years in several communities, I wrote articles and I worked on several projects. When you are a software developer you often want to share your experience, your progress, your problems on several projects etc. The only thing you don't have is the time for setting up a website to share your thoughts. Talking for me personally I loved those .plan updates which you can find on all the sites. Unforgotten the .plan updates from Tim Willits refering to the release of Quake 2 on BluesNews.

It took me over 10 years wanting to write everything down which runs through my mind and so this blog was born. Of course I'm new to blogs and my english is not that good and I still don't know what a blogroll is but I do my best.

So a big thanks and all the kudos go to the guys who develop this BlogEngine.NET. It makes it so easy to set it up and get it to run that it's big fun to write your articles. This guys did and do a really great job. Ok I love ASP.NET and I tryied out some of the free blog engines (I also tried non-ASP.NET blog engines) but I soon decided to use BlogEngine.NET since this was easy to implement, has many features (sadly I don't use all) and they have an incredible forum.

Try it, install it, write and love it. To all of those of you who want to run your own blog and don't want to loose much time on installing and configuring then BlogEngine.NET is for you.
